Compliance training is the quickest route to eLearning. Most industries have issues of compliance and organisations need to ensure their staff are compliant – as a matter of law. When done well, eLearning can provide the best solution: cost effective, tailored, adaptive and fun!

Unfortunately, it's compliance training that has given the eLearning industry a bad name, simply because compliance training online is so often done badly by eLearning companies.

The worst sort of online compliance training? Page-turning content, multiple choice quizzes, not adaptable to the needs of different learners. Why get all learners to start at the same point when clearly some learners simply need to refresh or update their understanding; others might only need to demonstrate their competence?

The best sort of compliance training (online or classroom based)? Scenario based – that is, based in the reality of the learner's everyday workplace; adaptable to the skills and requirements of different learners; enables learners to demonstrate their understanding (their competence in performance) rather than be tested on what they don't know, out of context.
