Healthline for young people

  • Focus area: Health Studies
  • Audience: 15-18 years
  • Software application: HTML, Flash and XML

An educational interactive that explores health resources within the community by allowing students to select specific topics and navigate through a town centre, visiting shops and typical services to locate the community member whom they would like to answer their questions. As well as being able to explore various areas within a "world" and interview the appropriate professionals, the student can store the responses they have obtained and create their own documentary for playback.

The task is student led. Each student film maker chooses a topic to research for a film about where to get help in the context of a small community. The student chooses questions to ask and will be confronted with barriers to getting the information they want. Students are encouraged to break through these barriers by problem solving their way to alternative sources for information.

Students are encouraged toward independent problem solving. They are encouraged to utilise self help solutions by seeking the kinds of alternative support available that enables young people in rural areas to maintain privacy and yet not have to put up with illness for fear of being found out. They can follow through the pathways to getting support and experience the barriers to finding out.
